Lithuania approves anti-smoking program

The government of Lithuania approved yesterday a program to fight smoking. The document provides for intensified information of the population about the bad effects of smoking; a dramatic increase in prices for tobacco products, and gradual introduction of a ban on smoking in public places. The number of cigarettes consumed in Lithuania last year officially exceeded 1 million per head. Tobacco products sold in the country cost nearly 130 million euros.
