Inter-tabac Asia will be held in the state-of-the-art Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) alongside ProTobEx, the trade fair for the industrial manufacture of tobacco goods, raw tobacco and packaging. Peter A. Quinter, GrayRobinson, P.A., will be lecturing on ‘The status of Asia-Pacific’s trade agreement negotiations with the United States’ and ‘Trends in the international trade regulation of tobacco products and e-cigarettes’. Prior to joining GrayRobinson, Peter served as legal counsel at the Office of the Chief Counsel of the U.S. Customs Service in Miami. Peter was recently appointed Vice-Chair of the Customs Law Committee of the American Bar Association‘s Section of International Law and has been named a Best Lawyer in America for the past 5 years.
James Cutforth from Domino Printing Science UK plc will be giving a presentation on ‘The challenges of cigarette pack coding’. James is Global Sector Manager Tobacco at Domino Printing Sciences plc UK. Emerging global legislation in the tobacco industry is signaling a move to the ‘batch of one’ through product serialisation. This session focuses on the challenges that all FMC manufacturers may face when printing coding onto cigarette packs. Starting with the basics of the various technologies currently deployed, it will also take a look at how this technology is at the very heart of printing unique, non-predictive serialised codes, which are fundamental to processes such as aggregation and Track & Trace.
Ray Story will introduce the Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association (TVECA). The TVECA is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a sensible and responsible electronic cigarette market by providing the media, legislative bodies and consumers with education, communication and research. Ray Story, the founder and owner of TVECA, initiated the litigation against the FDA claiming the e-cig was indeed a tobacco product and not a drug delivery device.
Eric Piras, Business Development Director at Imperial Tobacco, Premium Cigar Division, will be giving a presentation on ‘Cigars in Asia’. Based in Hong Kong, Eric has more than 18 years experience in the cigar industry in Asia-Pacific and is one of the highest profiles in this sector. The 55-year old French national, joined Altadis (later acquired by Imperial Tobacco Group) in 1999 and travels the globe setting up and strengthening distribution channels for the Premium Cigar Division. Prior to joining Altadis, Eric Piras was the Regional Director for The Pacific Cigar Company, Habanos exclusive distributor in Asia-Pacific and Canada, largely contributing to the building of their brands and the development of the Casa Del Habanos franchise in these regions. Eric’s wide knowledge extends from tobacco growing to manufacturing, marketing, distributing and ultimately the pleasure of smoking a cigar.
Mark Hanusz, CEO at Equinox Publishing, will be lecturing on ‘KRETEK: The Aromatic Soul of a Nation’. Mark, a Jakarta resident since 1997, is the Founder of Equinox Publishing, Indonesia’s largest English-language publishing house. He is the author of the critically-acclaimed book ‘KRETEK: The History and Culture of Indonesia’s Clove Cigarettes’, which was originally published in the year 2000, has sold over 10,000 copies. Mark is also a Board Member of the Lontar Foundation and received the ‘Best New Business Model for Book Publishing in Asia’ award in 2008. His lecture covers the development of the clove cigarette from its beginning as a medicinal remedy to its ascendancy as an Indonesian cultural icon with over 90% share of the market.
