World Tobacco (WT) Asia 2014, scheduled for November in Singapore, has been cancelled due a negative government response, organisers said
Cancellation follows the relocation announced in April to Singapore from Jakarta, Indonesia, where the WT exhibition initially was to take place. That move came after the February cancellation on short notice of a competing tobacco trade fair that was to be held in Bali, Indonesia. “This is a great pity indeed as many companies want to participate in an Asia-Pacific tobacco event,” WT said. “From here forward such an event in Asia looks less likely than ever.” “Despite earlier agreements the government in Singapore has made threats to us and so we are unable to be sure of a positive outcome”, WT said. “It would better in our view to make an early decision about this expo than be left with doubts about its safety and positive completion.
