Tobacco Farming Dying Out

Tobacco acreage is cut down in Gagauzia

Gagauzia is an autonomous region in the south of Moldova. Sergey Babiy, head of Gagauzia’s Department of Agriculture and Agroindustry, says: “For various reasons, farms growing tobacco have cut down acreage for this crop. Tobacco has been sown on 55 hectares instead of the planned 190 hectares.” Thus tobacco acreage has shrunk by more than three times this year.
